AgroSolar Farming Spice, Rare Palms and Date Palms, and African Chocolate
The project is characterised by the integration of solar energy and agriculture. Solar energy will power the farming, processing and water pumping in alternative to fossil fuels thereby contributing to the reduction of agricultural emissions.
Sustainable agriculture will contribute to mitigating the effects of droughts triggered by climate change.
The Project will create considerable employment respecting gender equality and additional income for farmers in rural areas with high unemployment and poverty.The project integrates both green energy and agriculture to enhance climate change adaptation capabilities of rural communities to stimulate sustainable economy.
- Research, development and propagation of local and African plant species and processing for local consumption and for export.
- Creation of a Botanical garden for the preservation of rare and forgotten African medical and food plants, grown, studied, propagated and saved. To be exploited for the good of local communities and mankind.
- Rare African Palms: obtaining seeds, propagating and planting them to save these wonderful species from extinction. Once palm species are saved ; seedling propagation and reforestation in the original areas of habitat.
- Spice Crop development: The East African coast was traditionally and in ancient times the production basket of spices for the world. The project aims at the (Re)introduction, propagation and processing of tropical spices like Vanilla, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Pink Pepper, Black Pepper, Cloves, Saffron, Green Curry leaf, Red chilies, etc.
- Essential Oil processing: Due to increasing demand for natural cosmetic, aromatic and medical products, farmers will be encouraged to grow crops for essential oil, gastronomic, cosmetic and medicinal uses. Plants include Ylang-ylang, palmarosa, turmeric, patchouli, citrus, Baobab, Neeme, Cashew nut oils ,etc. Some plants like Aloe Arborescence and Maringa have unique medical, anti-aging, anti -viral and anti-cancer qualities.
